How can I create a ceramic effect on a Venetian mask?

when I was in Venice. Is it a ceramic effect on a papier mache mask or an actual ceramic mask? I picked up a few in the shops and they all seemed like papier mache....





It would be awesome if someone could tell me how to achieve this ceramic effect!How can I create a ceramic effect on a Venetian mask?
look up crackle paint and how to achieve it. It's usually a base paint plus top coat. Usually in the spray paint section of hardware stores.


Or use paint from can with crackle medium.
