What face masks or respirators are effective for the disposal of dog feces and urine? CONT...?

I am purchasing a home, it is a foreclosure and the people let their dogs defecate in the home. The carpets are being ripped up, there is plywood underneath so were going to sand it down. If that does not work, well rip them up. My Question Is : What face masks or respirators are effective for the disposal of dog feces and urine? In addition, what health risks are involved? Also, what chemicals are secreted from the dog feces are urine? (I鈥檓 aware that pneumonia is a product of urine, but what about feces?)What face masks or respirators are effective for the disposal of dog feces and urine? CONT...?
Use a deodorising disinfectant or better yet hire a steamer.

Any dust mask will suit the purpose. You don't need anything special. I'm assuming that you would be wearing gloves to rip out the stuff, and don't plan to be eating in amongst the dust and debris. Gerbies won't eat through a dust mask anyway. Most bacteria would have been long dead anyway- lack of moisture and incorrect temperatures would have done them in. The stink- well that's a different matter all together, and one that isn't a health hazard. It's just hazardous to the contents of your stomach. Pneumonia is not a product of urine. Do you mean ammonia? That would have long since evaporated anyway. Your plywood may be stained, but it won't pose a health hazard to you. You could clean it with any standard household disinfectant you liked, and let it dry well- and then re-carpet. I know the situation is rather disgusting sounding, and definitely unhygenic with the carpet in place, but honestly, once you rip out the carpet and padding- washing the underfloor is really all you need to do. You really don't have to sand it off at all.

When did face masks and respirators, first come into us in deep mined pits in sotland?

  • Can N95 disposable industrial respirator masks be used safely in place of the kind they sell in drug stores?

Just a thought in case we actually do end up with a swine/bird flu pandemic. How often should you change them? Let's assume you only spend 1 hour a day in contact with the public.

Are they safe for old people with cancer or COPD?

try this FAQ's from 3M Occupational Health and Environmental Safety Division about masks:

Those surgical masks wont do anything but keep you from spreading YOUR germs.

N95 is the bare minimum, ABSOLUTELY nothing less. I'd say in the most extreme circumstances (people coughing all over you who have the swine flu) I'd give it an hour tops. Then not trust it anymore. However in everyday normal human contact as long as it stays dry (no excessive moisture) and sealed it should be fine for quite a few hours. Don't go by me though , check the box. It should have a time on it. NOTE: This is with a Fitting mask not a ill fitting one. Here are some instructions on testing proper fit: http://www.natlallergy.com/images/art/82鈥?/a>

As for if they're safe for old people with cancer or COPD call your local hospital or clinic and they'll be able to tell you.

Note your still playing a game of chance but with lower risks. the N95 doesn't 100% block Everything but its safer than nothing. This is what i just bought :

Good price for what your getting: http://www.amazon.com/North-CFR-1-Dust-M鈥?/a>

These are exactly the same filtration wise but the lower one is the one that comes with most pandemic kits because it has a very user friendly manual and guide.

Where can I get respirator masks?

I've searched popular pharmacy's which usually have them but are out of stock. I'd like to protect my kids as much as possible from this crazy flu. Any suggestions?Where can I get respirator masks?
Like Craig said and don't think you should not worry a two year old died in Houston from it first US death.Where can I get respirator masks?
First, unless your kids are very unhealthy or under the age of 12 months, they don't need respirators. Save them from their own dignity. The Swine Flu only adversely affects the very old, newborns, and people already very, very sick. The average 2 year old won't get sick or die from it.
The mask thing is a waste of time, the swine flu virus just goes through the mask. They past them out just so the people feel protected, they're not. You can contact the CDC and confirm. Wearing a mask can't hurt but they don't help either.
You can get them at most hardware stores, Walmarts, Home Depots, Lowes, Targets, etc.
cut a coffee filter to shape their face and tie a string around their head and put on long sleeves with gloves. they will die if you dont.
';This crazy flu'; is just as likely to kill your kids as any flu. I wouldn't worry about it.

Should i wear a respirator or air purifiing mask when poring off paint into a 55gallon drum?

please give me proof of ur answerShould i wear a respirator or air purifiing mask when poring off paint into a 55gallon drum?
A nuisance dust respirator or paper mask may seem to help a little with the smell. If its latex, I wouldn't worry about it. For oil or other solvent based paints you need a chemical cartridge respirator...they will take the smell of a solvent right out of the air.

You can get them at the paint store. There are specialized cartridges and also a general purpose one for all solvents which is cheaper. The mask lets you breathe in through the cartridge. When you exhale it goes out a valve. A cartridge is good for 5 - 10 hours depending on how much fumes are present.

There is a small section on chemical cartridge respirators in this Wikipedia article on respirators...

If the fumes are really bad, you want to use a supplied-air respirator...this has a full face mask and thier are several different types. Regulated, compressed (cool) filtered air is fed in.Should i wear a respirator or air purifiing mask when poring off paint into a 55gallon drum?
The company that supplies the paint should have an MSDS on their website for that paint. Look at section 3 in the MSDS and it will tell you all the proper personal protective equipment that you need to use with the product. It's the only sure way to give yourself the proper level of protection without going overboard.
For a gallon, I'd hold my breath, but for that much, yeah, protect your lungs.
